You are not going to lose weight if you are stuck in a
program that you hate. If you are not enjoying what you are doing your effort
will be minimal and therefore so will your weight loss.
The
first step to your goal weight is to choose a program that suites your
personality and your lifestyle. Once this has been decided you will be
motivated and eager to get going.
The
healthiest way to lose weight is at a rate of half a kilo to 1 kilo a week.
Weight
loss is an emotional thing and cannot be accomplished unless you consciously
make a decision to do it. You are worth the effort. Once in the right mindset,
decide on a realistic goal. Calculate your BMI (most health websites can
calculate this for you) or consult a Wellness Consultant if you are not sure
what your ideal weight should be. During your program you should be full of
energy, if you are tired or not coping then re-evaluate your goals as you may
be over exercising or under eating. An average woman needs 1 200 calories a day
just to keep her body functioning, so aim for about 1 500 a day, never dipping
below 1 200.
If
a long and sweaty exercise regime just isn’t going to work for you, try shorter
sessions throughout the day, maybe 15 minutes of jogging or brisk walking in
the morning and another 15 during the afternoon. It may feel like you are
cheating, but your body will be thankful for it and results will show in a
month or two!
Your
eating should be spaced out over the day, with the smaller of the meals being
dinner. Try to fill up on protein and vegetables and watch your portion sizes –
if you aren’t sure, just use the size of your fist as a guideline. Eating
should be enjoyable, just stick to the guidelines. Be on alert when drinking
alcohol, it leads to cravings and adds empty calories (and carbohydrates) to
your body, which can lead to weight gain.
Lets
simplify. Weight loss happens when the calories burnt are more than the
calories you eat/drink. Seems so simple, doesn’t it? Weight loss doesn’t have
to be seen as difficult or unobtainable, just give yourself time and within a
few months you won’t recognize that person in the mirror.
